Projects we admire: The Hall

November 25, 2017

The Hall is a temporary food hall and event space in the heart of the Tenderloin in downtown San Francisco. Envisioned by Tidewater Capital, the Hall is a phase 0 activation of the first floor of an abandoned building on Market Street. Tidewater is currently in the midst of planning the redevelopment of the space which has just completed the entitlement.  The goal of the Hall is to "harness the power of food to build community"  by making great local food accessible.  The Hall is a temporary pop-up space consisting of six local food vendors as well as community gathering and event space. Through this project, Tidewater has been engaging with the community in an authentic way to truly understand the needs, issues, and dreams of the people in this challenged area of SF.

This engagement by the Tidewater team has influenced the design and concept for the permanent development and garnered local support which has led to the project being recently entitled with virtually no opposition. We applaud the Tidewater Capital team's commitment to the community and creative activation and programming.  This approach has enriched the area and shown how thoughtful engagement with communities can lead to positive results.
